Lord Calidore stood at stud for Black Forest Gypsy Horses and Shires in 2009 and has since matured into an even more stunning stallion. He spent eight months training at the Driving Horse Connection, showing great athletic talent and aptitude for this discipline. His excellence in driving was proven when he won both the Ladies and Gentlemen's Pleasure Driving Classes at the 2011 Gypsy Horse World Show. He is also doing very well in his Hunter Equitation training under saddle at home on our property in Littleton, CO.
Lord Calidores’s bloodlines combine the beautiful golden Palomino stallion Thistledown Shantaigh with the stallion quality strawberry blagdon Thistledown Strawberry to produce a fine example of the breed. Lord Calidore also inherited his parents’ fine, silky feather and double mane. Lord Calidore was tested heterozygous for the cream dilution gene by the University of Kentucky and has produced some stunning offspring such as Desert Jewel’s top notch Palomino and white colt Fort Knox (seen on the Progeny page).
Lord Calidore exemplifies the breed standard with his incredibly short back, square build and apple rump. His excellent conformation is topped off by a refined yet substantial head complete with a gentle and intelligent eye. This summer Lord Calidore's conformation and movement were applauded by the judges at the Almost Summer Show in Denver, CO where he won Grand Champion of all sexes and also at the Continental Divide Show where he was Champion Stallion out a strong field of eight other studs. He went on to be awarded Reserve Grand Champion as seen on the Show Records Page. Lord Calidore's winning temperament really shone through at these shows as he took switching from riding to driving to halter classes all in stride and his strong work ethic and athletic talent were always noted by the judges.
